Within the framework of linking contemporary art with the sustainable development goals and Egypt’s 2030 vision, the World Art Forum for Sustainable Development in its first edition was launched at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization on December 16th. The forum, with PASHION as one of the media partners, that ran until the 19th of January and is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of State for Immigration and Expatriates’ Affairs, the Ministry of Environment, and the State’s Department of Tourism in Cairo and in partnership with the United Nations Representative Office in Egypt, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the New York International Contemporary Art Society and Tatweer Misr for Real Estate Development showcased more than 100 artists from 30 countries.
Organized by Sheranda World Art and Jupiter Commz , the WAF opened in the presence of H.E Dr. Hala El Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and General Director of the United Nations Office in Vienna, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, Head of Authority of National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), Ms. Elena Panova, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Egypt, Dr. Ahmed Shalaby, President and CEO of Tatweer Misr. Among the distinguished guests that enjoyed the art exhibition and also had the opportunity to tour the museum grounds were ambassadors, celebrities and public figures The forum included discussion dialogues about sustainable development and its deep connection with art.
In this context, contemporary artist, Ms. Randa Fouad, President of the World Art Forum (WAF) and President of Sheranda World Art, expressed her happiness with the launch of one of the most important artistic events in Egypt, “We are proud that our dream has turned into reality, as we are currently witnessing the launch of the first edition of the World Art Forum at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC). For the first time, we, as artists, embrace the integration of contemporary art with sustainable development. We believe in the role of art as an effective partner in raising awareness of societal issues, as it is a universal language bringing people together.”
The agenda of the World Art Forum included a wide range of artistic events and round tables that discussed the role of art in promoting sustainable development and building partnerships between artists and practitioners of sustainable development to ensure continuity and progress of art dialogues. Executable technical development strategies and plans aimed to creating an educated audience, activating cultural dialogue and supporting the Egyptian and Arab cultural self-confidence and its capabilities for creativity and renewal to the importance of enhancing the cultural developmental dimension around the world.
