One of the most famous and excentric fashion designers in the world, Karl Lagerfeld died on February 19th, 2019 at the American Hospital of Neuilly-sur-Seine in Paris, succumbing to pancreatic cancer. His cat Choupette had been by his side for the last eight years of his life.
The heiress to a fashion fortune
Born on August 15th, 2011, the cute white blue-eyed Birman cat, is the famous sole heiress to the Karl Lagerfeld fortune, estimated anywhere between 195 to 300 million dollars.
Choupette was three months old when she was given as a Christmas gift to Karl by his then companion, model Baptiste Giambiconi. Since then Choupette was always by the designers side.
A cat life of luxury & fame
As Karl´s companion, Choupette has travelled on private jets, stayed at the most luxurious hotels in the world, and is rumored to have her private chef and is a patient at Paris´ most famous vet.Thrown into the limelight, Choupette was with Karl on the cover of Madame Figaro, shared the cover of Vogue Brazil with super-model Gisele Bundchen and is pictured next to Karl on the cover of his autobiography.
A fashion line and instagram account
Karl´s obsession with Choupette led to the creation of an Choupette inspired make-up line in 2016, and a Christmas 2018 collection featuring Karl & his mascot on handbags, purses and leather goods that was quickly picked up by models and influencers from around the world. Karl also launched her first instagram account @Choupettesdiary managed by Ashley Tschudin, hired to turn the cat into a celebrity. The account that hasnt had any posts since November 2020 and counts 229k Follower. A new account launched in 2019 , @choupetteofficial that now enjoys 113k followers.
Everything for his cat, including a book
Karl paid tribute to his cat in writing a book titled: ‘Choupette: the private life of a high-flying fashion cat’ that describes the daily luxurious life of Choupette.
It is known that Karl said that if he cant succeed in leaving his estate to Choupette that he will make sure that the person who will take care of her, will live a very good life.
Choupette after Karl´s death
Choupette now lives with Francoise Cacote, Lagerfeld´s former housekeeper and has two assistants who take care of her around the clock to maintain her lavish lifestyle, including brushing her hair four times a day, preparing her meals served on a table set with china and cutlery, manicures and is rumored to sleep in discarded Chanel garments.
