In cooperation with Marakez, Mall of Arabia and the British Council Egypt, the Egyptian Fashion & Design Council launched the first edition of the Official Egypt Fashion Awards.
An international advisory board that included Diane Pernet, ASVOF, Jamila Halfichi, Al Sharq Al Awsat, Shirene Rifai, Jordan Fashion Week, Susan Sabet, Pashion magazine/EFDC and Kegham Djeghalian, GIU pre-selected 20 finalists in 4 categories from over 130 applicants. An exhibition of the finalists work at Mall of Arabia also gave the public the chance to vote for their favorite designers.
The finalists per category:
Young Designers: Bassant Maximus, Marina Azer, Nada Hosny, Alaa Abo El Goud,Asmaa El Degwy
Emerging Designers: Rasha Pasha Moaaz El Behairy, Maison Saedi, Double A, Alia Abaza
Accessory Designers: Aliel, The Bag, Jarii, Rasha Pasha, Jlood
Jewelry Designers : Menna Boudy, Reem Jano, Mimzo, Roknayah Design, Ammanii
On February 27th the finalists show and award gala that followed a reception at Gala restaurant took place at Mall of Arabia in front of 250 invited guests that included members of Egypt’s fashion industry, diplomats, society and the media including official Radio partner Nile Fm and Nogoum FM, media partners Pashion, Cairo West and He and Tik Tok. Al Sagheer Salons were the official hair and make-up partners.
The panel of judges that brought together expertise in the fields of design, education, retail, marketing, finance and red carpet glam was comprised of EFDC board members Susan Sabet and Paul Antaki, Marakez Marketing Director Nadia Ezz, Head of Arts Programme British Council Egypt Cathy Costain, Lebanese couturier Rami Kadi, Egyptian actress Salma Abu Deif, Entrepreneur Ola Dajani, Prof.GIU Kegham Djeghalian, MD The Design Studio by Azza Fahmy Yasmine El Hamalawy, and celebrity stylist Yasmine Eissa, announce the 4 winners who will travel to London Fashion Week in September 2022:
Marina Azer, Moaaz El Behairy, Jarii and Reem Jano.
