The 3rd Thai International silk fashion week kicked off on December 6th at Paragon Hall at Bangkok’s luxury shopping mall Siam Paragon. Prior to the gala event , guests that included Thai government officials and dignitaries, ambassadors and diplomats and socialites , local and international media, enjoyed an exhibition of Thai Silk manufacturers, local crafts schools and Thai products.
A welcome speech by HE the Thai deputy prime minister, dance performances, and a fashion show that saw the Minister of Culture and other senior Thai officials from the ministries of education, tourism & sports and foreign affairs walk the runway dressed in designs by students from different Thai fashion schools, prepared the way for the highlight of the evening: the national costume fashion show.
Over the next five days guests headed back to Siam Paragong to view fashion shows by designers from 60 countries including Italian star designer Rocco Barocco and five designers from the Arab world.
Up first Egyptian designer Ahmed Saedi who sent out 6 colorful pieces in Thai shantung silk inspired by ” Malayet el laff” , the big scarves peasant women throw over their head and shoulders.
Moroccan Said Mahrouf also worked with solid colored Thai shantung silks for large long dresses, skirts and capes, paired with colorful Moroccan hand embroidered gilets and detailing.
Saudi designer Mashael Alrajhi presented a very colorful collection inspired by Saudi traditional wear made in bright Thai silk fabrics.
Bahraini designer Fatima Al Samahiji infused traditional woven Thai silk patterns into her youthful collection that also included a heavenaly embroidered Bahraini traditional costume.
Kuwaiti designer Montaha Al Ajaeel who also showed at Paris fashion week last October, sent out six classic silhouettes in black and white chequered Thai silk.

To wrap up the the fashion week designers once again sent out one look to compete for the Best Designer Award in front of an esteemed jury that included no other than Prof. Jimmy Choo. The first prize went to Lan Huong Le from Vietnam, 1st runner up Peter Mero from Hungary, 2nd runner up Ann Teo from Singapore, 3rd runner up Amazonka Choigala from Mongolia and 4th runner up Isaac Yuen from Hongkong.
