The Dior men´s pre-fall 2023 show in Cairo is taking place at the Pyramids of Giza on December 3rd.  Labelled as the biggest international fashion event in Egypt until date, we let you in on 10 facts any die-hard Dior fan and fashionista should know about the historic maison and Kim Jones, the creative director of menswear.

 

  • John Galliano´s sharp eye early on discovered the talented Kim Jones and  bought half of his graduation collection.
  • Prior to his first Dior men´s show, Kim Jones designed the morning suit worn by David Beckham at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on 19 May 2018
  • Kim Jones joined the ranks of British fashion designers,  when he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to fashion.
  • Besides a penchant for vintage fashion, Kim Jones owns over 500 pairs of sneakers.
  • Dior paid tribute to Ancient Egypt with the spring 2004 haute couture collection designed by John Galliano, which can easily be labelled as the most oppulent, rich and precious fashion collection ever inspired by Egypt.
  • On February 12, 1947, Christian Dior presented his first show to the press in an elegant salon on the Avenue Montaigne.
  • In 1970 Marc Bohan designed the first Christian Dior men´s collection.
  • The first ever Dior men´s pre-fall show took place in Tokyo in November 2018.
  • After Christian Dior´s death in October 1957, the following designers took over as creative directors until date: Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Hedi Slimane, Kris Van Assche, Raf Simons, Maria Grazia Chiuri.
  • Christian Dior dresses were sold in Egypt in 1951 at the famous Sednaoui Department store.
